Observing the sunset in all its glory

Observing the sunset in all its glory

I am aware of my ribs —

how each bone stacks against

the other

allowing me to breath.

To live.

I am proud of how my ribs

expand.

How I take in life

with every breath.

I will not doubt

this body of mine.

I will not doubt

the space I take up

in the world.

I will doubt you

and all your bravado,

your false confidence,

your insecurity.

I’m sorry that I make you

feel small.

But I do not care.

If you cannot

keep up with my expansion —

my breath —

my life,

Then you

were never

supposed to be

an integral

part

of my life.

I’m sorry if

that hurts you.

But I am a sunset —

Brilliant, bold, beautiful.

And you are

sunglasses,

protecting yourself

from my radiation.

I don’t have time for that.
